The campground at Joncherey was really nice - spacious, green, shady and quiet. A lovely lady sorted me out, despite the late arrival - almost 9:30 pm. She doesn't get much support from the Mairie, whom she described as "pas très campeur". She asked me to fill out a little survey which she had created herself and translated into English, German and Dutch. She is very dedicated and determined to keep the campground running, so I gave her lots of positive feedback.

Although Joncerey is only a little village, it does have some interesting history. It was here that the first shots of World War I between France and Germany were fired. On August 2nd, 1914, a German officer was ordered to cross the border into France and stir up some trouble. A French officer was sent out to intercept him, their paths crossed in the village of Joncherey, they drew their guns and fired - both were killed. They were the first French and German casualties of the war.
